Olympics
Anyone else really enjoying the great sport? Maybe I'm biased being British but doesn't the games have a really friendly sportsman like feel?

Re: Olympics
They are great fun.
I am taking my hefty weight to the park on Tuesday. We have tickets to see some diving in the evening. Will try and get some return tickets for more events whilst at the park !

It's only 9.6 billion ...... it would not even begin to pay back the national debt. The cost of the Olympics is the equivalent of 0.42% of the entire national debt. To put this into perspective ... If your parents had a £250,000 mortgage it would be like them paying £1050.00 off of the total.
In the meantime, the true value of the Olympics is more than monetary. A whole generation of young people will be inspired to compete for our country. Most people are feeling a sense of pride at our sucess, and I feel proud at the way the British people who are spectating are genuinely pleased and applaud competitors of other countries too.
This puts Britain in a good light and in future years will boost the tourist trade which boosts the economy. In the short term there will be extra sales of certain types of sports equipment as people experiment with trying new sports. Gyms and health clubs will probably have a period of increased membership.
To discover the benefits of the an event like the Olympics you have to look further forward than a few days in August.
putting the 9.6 billion into a bank account that is in debt by 2311.6 billion is not even going to cover the interest payments, and will show no negligible benefit. If you want to blame someone for the national debt than look towards the banks that we had to bail out in 2008 and put your name towards the Robin Hood Tax campaign which would raise more than we spent on the Olympics every year. I believe that France has just signed up to such a tax, maybe we should follow thier example.
Shame you haven't watched the Olympics ... you just missed some history being made. Remember, you can't make sound informed decisions about things if you refuse to watch, listen or read about certain things.

didn't they say the Olympics would bring increased trade to the shops of London during the time of the Olympics? they said people would buy more from local stores, when in actual fact most of the buying has been done at the official Olympic areas, businesses are noticing barely any rise in their normal trade as promised, true sports goods may be bought but wont it be more likely that tourists will wait till they are in their home country before doing so? and also the British will buy more local to this area and would have been just as inspired watching the Olympics in another country? such as i took up badminton when I saw it in the Beijing Olympics. also the increase of gym memberships will last for a month at max, because it will be like a new years resolution all over again ''I will get fit for next year''.

i do blame the banks thats why i try my best not to use banks turning to building societies instead. I think all bankers are extremely greedy self centred money grabbing pigs. I do believe tax is way too high and do not believe the money is spent wisely, most of it keeping MPs in luxury and I am not even sure what they do to actually benefit the country as a whole.
do you not believe every penny saved including removing these luxuries from MPs and giving people more control over the government, as the government should fear its country rather than the opposite way around, as well as stopping the banks from practically burning money away and refusing to bail them out when they get into financial difficulties as well as the added factor of the European Union bailouts we would be in much much less debt?
We did not support the Euro, if other countries would have done the same is cannot help but feel we would be economically in a much better state

Re: Olympics
On a more serious side !!
Dressage ??? A sport ???? Really ??? Seriously ??? - horse dancing ???
Also, Team GB do very well in cycling and boat related sports.
There should be some serious lobbying for Pedallo events to be included at the next games in Rio !!

lol don't worry. I love a good debate. I also listen to what other people say and take on their points of view too. I also realise that it's not personal and that this is your point of view. It's an honest response and for that I respect you. You make some interesting points, but I have to go to work and don't have time at the minute to have a think about them and respond
And Gem ... imho, no its not a sport, but it was entertaining to watch so I'm ok with it being in the Olympics .... especially if we win gold!

Re: Olympics
Olympic Halo? It must qualify as it requires practise and skill. I predict gold medal to ÐTK-Atomis. Come to think of it France might go for that, a guaranteed Gold medal at every Olympics?
