Problem downloading wasted timberland map
Tried downloading thois map several times but starts downloading fine before unexpectingly closing with only 535kbs loaded, can someone check by trying to download this map again to see if its just my problem or if the download is corrupted.
(I have a newish laptop but with 111gb used of C hardisc but for a few unused GB's. Though my C disc is almost full my data D disc has over 107 gbs unused, I just cant seem to swap gbs to either enlarge my C disc or know how to utilise my free D disc.)

I downloaded it not because i needed it but to see if it worked and it downloaded fine. So I think maybe its a space problem
try doing a disk clean up and a defrag to see if you can create a little extra space

Pat, Yes, I wish I had bought a bigger lap top hard drive now.
I have an F external hard drive so i might move my 3000 pictures onto this to free up space in the short term.
Background Information For Any Geeks Out There
I'm still puzzled that I have a newish gaming laptop with 250GB hard drive but currently its only utilising 111gb's of memory through the C Drive which is nearly full. It still has a D Data drive which is not being used as it has 107GB's showing free.
Being a laptop, instead of 2 drives I'm assuming mine has a hard drive partitioned into the C & D Drives but I tried and cannot swap data memory storage between them.
I don't really know how I can utilise this extra 107GB's via the D Data Drive I would have thought data storage would have transferred to this empty drive once the C Drive became full but this does not seem the case. I will have to put a geek hat on and look into all of this.

When a disk is partitioned into two, the system is on the C drive and usually it does not tranfer automatically given a disk to another.
You must do this manually, which means that your C drive is really(and only at this moment) a storage of data.
You do drag and drop on it some file if you want get more space into your hard drive C.
I hope all my words are understandable, when it's technical words, i use sometime a translator and i hope it translate well
Pat
P.S : A partitioned disk is exactly the same as if you have two hard disk

Re: Problem downloading wasted timberland map
I understand Pat yes thank you.
I was hoping for a best solution to reassign the D Drive as my main storage drive now so that all my new files would be automatically dropped into my empty Data D Drive.

Robin, I assume you are using Vista, as it is a new laptop. Good news Vista has a disk management utility
To resize a partition with Windows Vista, follow these steps:
Be sure to back up any valuable information, because there is a slight chance that data can be lost when dealing with partitions.
1) Click on the Start menu
2) Right click on Computerand click on Manage
3) You may get a User Account Control dialog here; just click Continue
4) In the left pane, open up the Storage category and click on Disk Management
5) Here, you will find your partitions for your disks. Right click on the partition you’d like to modify.
6) Click on Extend Volume or Shrink Volume to extend or shrink the selected partition.

Re: Problem downloading wasted timberland map
Hi Mezz nice instructions! I have tried that but the C Drive won't allow any exansion (greyed out) it only allows the shrink option.
Thanks for your efforts

Re: Problem downloading wasted timberland map
Diskpart.exe does a very good job at working with partitions. Before continuing, make sure that you:
1) First, you’ll want to pull out your Start Menu and type diskpart.exe
(Windows XP users might have to download diskpart.exe )
This will open a Command Prompt like window. At this window, type list disk. This will list all your available hard disks.
2) Proceed by typing select disk to select the disk you want to work with.
3) Now we want to see which number is associated with the volume we want to work with. To obtain this list, type list volume
4) Select the desired volume by typing: select volume or select partition
You then have a list of options to choose from. Below is a list of commands you can type in depending on what you want to do with your selected volume. If you don’t input a number for size, the program will automatically use all the space available for your operation. For the purpose of this tutorial, I have decided to work with 10GB. (1000MB = 1GB)
- Backed up all important files
- Do not run diskpart.exe with Dynamic Disks

- Shrink desired=10000 minimum=2000 (Shrinks the volume by 10GB. If that’s not possible, this command makes sure that you at least shrink the volume by 2GB.)
- Extend size=10000
- Delete Partition
- Format

You are welcome Mark.
Good Luck Robin
As for the knowledge, I don't really know that much. Just this time, i was researching resizing hard drives about a year ago for a problem i had and this was i came up with then. It's really just luck.
